Dialogue & Localization.
A scalable dialogue and localization system supporting both narrative interactions and the broader UI. The challenge: deliver contextual, dynamic content that stays clear, readable and accessible across multiple languages. I owned it end-to-end, from UX and UI in Figma to a modular, data-driven system in Unreal Engine.
Static, hard to scale
Dialogue systems in games often feel static, repetitive and difficult to scale across contexts and languages, and can introduce usability issues when supporting global audiences.
What the system had to do
Design a clear dialogue experience that communicates information without disrupting gameplay; create a flexible content system that adapts to user context (character selection, progression); keep the interface readable across languages and text lengths; enable seamless language switching without interrupting the experience; and build a scalable framework that supports future content without redesign.
Four core challenges

Interaction design meets system design
I designed the dialogue interface in Figma, focusing on hierarchy, readability and minimal disruption to gameplay, then implemented a modular framework in Unreal that adapts content dynamically based on character selection, progression and repeated interactions. To improve clarity and pacing, I introduced structured content-delivery patterns such as progressive text reveal and synchronised audio feedback.


Built into the architecture
Rather than treating localization as an afterthought, I integrated it into the core system architecture: all user-facing text, from navigation and menus to dialogue, flows through a unified pipeline. From a UX perspective this required flexible layouts that accommodate varying text lengths and character sets while maintaining readability and hierarchy, and it let users switch languages seamlessly without interrupting their experience.
A scalable foundation
The final system provided a scalable foundation for contextual content and a global user base. Players engaged with dynamic, context-aware dialogue while keeping a smooth, uninterrupted experience, and the integrated localization system made the entire interface accessible across languages without compromising usability — a flexible, maintainable solution that reduced implementation overhead and supported ongoing content updates.
